Hard hats

shall

be worn by all persons outside of protected accommodation areas.

Hard hats

shall

be CE certified; ideally they will be light-coloured and equipped with a chinstrap.

The useful life of hard hats is to be verified taking into account the date of manufacture. This information

should

be stamped or marked accordingly by the manufacturer.

Hard hats

shall

be replaced prior to the marked expiry date, if any cracks or other damage is noted or after

impact even if damage is unnoticeable.

Paint

should

not be applied to the plastic shell. Paint solvents can weaken the plastic and increase the risk of

cracking. Paint may also conceal cracks.

Reflective tape may be used on the hard hat and aids visibility at night.

Check the condition of the suspension system that is designed to absorb impact.

Hard hats

should

be thoroughly inspected at regular intervals for cracks, tears in the fastening system,

abrasion, or other signs of wear.

Check the attachment straps carefully. Long periods of use can damage the suspension system. Contact

with perspiration and grease from the hair can speed deterioration of the materials used to make the

suspension system.

No holes

should

be made in the plastic shell. Any modifications to the structure of the hard hat will reduce

protective value of the hard hat.
