Equipment reliability depends on factors such as design, construction, initial commissioning, operating

practices and maintenance; and for installed equipment, properly planned maintenance procedures are

essential if vessels are to operate reliably and avoid unnecessary downtime or costly incidents.

The aim of the Planned Maintenance Systems is to:

a) Minimise the risk to personnel and prevent pollution or other environmental impact and any property

damage caused by machinery or equipment malfunction or failure;

b) Ensure the reliability of each vessel, its technical systems, machinery and equipment;

c) Ensure that any defects relating to technical systems, machinery or equipment are identified,

reported, analysed and that appropriate corrective action is assigned and completed;

d) Ensure that each vessel is maintained in conformity and in accordance with the relevant rules and

regulations of Classification Societies, Flag State and any other relevant authorities.
